About Your Instructor
Hi! Mrs. G. here...
Do you want to know a little about me?
My incredible husband and I have homeschooled our nine children for over 23 years! We've tried many curricula for many types of students. One is all auditory, while another is 110% kinetic. Their variety certainly broadens our spectrum. If you would like any input on a particular curriculum, one of us probably has an opinion.
I graduated from The Ohio State University (GO BUCKS!) with a B.S. in Architecture. For two and a half years, I worked on a Master's of Theological Studies in Liturgical Architecture. (Since then, our spiritual journey has been just that - a journey of a lifetime.) Competitive in the academic and professional architectural settings, I entered quite a few competitions. I won one by designing a Vet Hospital. After graduating from college, I worked as a freelance designer, coach, educator, and creator in two major architecture firms. It is surreal to drive by buildings that I had some influence upon years ago.
I am working on a Master's of Art Education with The Art of Education University (AOEU)!
So why an "Academy of the Arts"?
Short Answer:
My response to the gifts God has given me over the years!
It is what I was created to do.
Other Experience in the Arts
Entrenched in the field of photography during my late high school and early college days, I earned money for books and entertainment, taking photos and developing negatives. I miss my darkroom days!
Music has always been on my schedule. The piano is my favorite. From the age of 12 until after I graduated from college, I played the organ for our church weekly. In searching for "how to teach my children to play the piano," I learned about "Simply Music"! Hands down, it's the best "learn to play piano" method EVER! I have never been so excited to teach music. It is all play-based (not reading-based), and WOW.. the results... AMAZING!
As a registered teacher for the Institute of Excellence in Writing, I have been blessed to help even the most reluctant writing students thrive. So rewarding for all!
I was devoted to a dance program in high school from when I was four until I graduated. For seven years, on a scholarship, I danced in a ballet/jazz dance company. We used to perform every Friday in the schools. I developed a reputation for "dancing and musical architecture" because of the directions I took with college architectural design challenges. Despite the grumbling of my children, I still love to dance (even when out and about)! I just can't help it!
It wasn't until after high school that I stepped into the theatrical world. I've been directing children's musicals since 1990. I also designed sets and ran lights and music for various companies in my area. Over the past seven years, I have directed homeschooled kids in musicals, including: "The Enchanted Journey," "Willy Wonka," the "Wizard of Oz," "Annie Jr," “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolored Dreamcoat" and “The Story of the Nutcracker.” Working with this troupe has been a dream come true! Some of them have been in my musicals since 2010. Watching them grow up has been an enormous blessing!
Blessed with direct experience in Architecture, Art, Design, Theater, Music, Dance, Photography, and Writing, I have been teaching my children in person and many students online from around the world in many areas of "The Arts." Bringing it all together for students and providing some of the tools they will need for any of the design fields is one of my greatest joys.
Most importantly, I thrive on using my artistic talents to bring Glory to Our Father in Heaven and teaching others how to do so.
To HIM be the Glory!
